how to host a sourdough baking class
Last week, I hosted a sourdough baking class at my home with a few friends- it was so much fun! I’m going to break down all the details in this post, and hopefully you will be inspired to host a class of your own!
Find an instructor (unless you are an expert). A friend’s mom helped me host this class; I would recommend asking around or search on Instagram for instructors in your area.
Make your guest list. The key is to keep it small; otherwise it can get kind of chaotic. Keep in mind the space you will be using for the class- my kitchen island can comfortably hold ten (standing) people, so I invited eight friends plus myself and the instructor.
Purchase your supplies. Once I knew how many people would be in attendance, it was time to purchase all the materials and supplies for the class. Some instructors bring their own supplies, and you could also have people bring their own supplies from home if you don’t want to purchase them.
Here are all the supplies you will need to host a sourdough baking class:
plenty of rubber bands
It’s super helpful to have the following in your own kitchen, once it’s time to actually bake the bread:
a wooden teak spurtle (yes, that’s a real word!)
a pair of silicone oven mitts
Give yourself plenty of time.
Our class took around two hours, but every instructor is different; ask the instructor how much time they recommend.
Provide snacks & beverages.
Our class started at 5:30, so I provided simple appetizers and also ordered pizza from a local pizza place. Easy! It also gave me an excuse to break out these new appetizer plates from Williams-Sonoma, and I served pizza on these dinner plates from the same collection.
That’s it! Hopefully some of you feel encouraged to host your own sourdough baking party - I promise it is easier than it looks and it is guaranteed to be a fun experience for you and a few friends.
xx
